Due to COVID-19, teacher candidates in the 2019/20 Bachelor of Education program have had to quickly adapt their teaching and learning styles through the use of online platforms. We are showcasing some of the wonderful examples of projects created by them as part of the community field experience.

- Art tends to bring about uncertainty and hesitation for some educators, as creating simple yet engaging art lessons can be daunting to some. I created this booklet of 10 lessons/activities to help address this hesitation and to help educators bring art into their classrooms in fun and exciting ways.
By integrating figures such as Picasso and Monet into these lessons/activities, students are given the opportunity to create art pieces that are inspired by some of the most world-renowned artists.
Most of the materials used are simple, whereas some of the activities require unique materials, such as household items like brooms and squeegees. The simple materials can be found in most schools, but other options are listed for teachers who cannot access the exact materials or wish to use alternative materials to better meet the needs of their students.
- Did you face any particular challenges in the planning, making or delivery of this project?
- I faced challenges in the formatting and making it look appealing to the eye. I put all of the information in and went back and fixed it up to make it easier to navigate through. I also found it challenging to pick activities with accessible materials. Most of the activities have alternative materials listed for teachers who cannot access certain items or teachers who have students with varying abilities/skills.
- How was the project received? Did anything surprise you about the outcome?
- My project was well-received by my faculty advisor. She had a minor suggestion, which was to simplify my activities by taking out some extra instructions and removing the assessment and objectives. It is assumed that well-versed teachers will use this resource so some things were just extra.
- Can you tell us about a highlight of creating this remote lesson plan?
- I enjoyed creating this set of lesson plans because it allowed me to explore the amount of information that is out there. I was able to find countless teacher blogs and learn about things that have worked for them in terms of art education. Seeing what has already been done is very helpful when trying to find new ways to teach subjects like art. I found many resources along the way and they can be found within my resource (for those interested).
