The Teacher Education Office is pleased to announce the following staffing updates for the Admissions team. Effective July 2023, Derek Wong is the Manager, Admissions & Recruitment and Gabriel Berri is the Admissions Officer for the Elementary & Middle Years program option.
Derek Wong has 15 years of experience in K-12 and higher education, including roles in student recruitment, advising, guidance, post-secondary admission, and teaching career education. He is a proud graduate of the UBC Master of Education in Higher Education program. Prior to assuming the role of Manager, Admissions & Recruitment, Derek was the Admissions Officer responsible for the BEd Elementary & Middle Years portfolio at the Vancouver and WKTEP campuses, and the inaugural intake of the Rural and Remote (RRED) program.
Before stepping into the new role of Admissions Officer, Gabriel Berri was Undergraduate Support staff with the Teacher Education Office for two years. He holds a BA in Psychology and over seven years of experience working with English as Second Language students prior to joining the TEO.
The TEO thanks Dr. Justin O’Hearn for his five years of service in Admissions and Recruitment and recognizes his recent nomination for the Faculty of Education Dean’s Award for Staff Excellence (Outstanding Service). Please join us in congratulating both Derek and Gabriel on their new roles!
