Academic Requirements

The UBC Bachelor of Education program is a post-baccalaureate teacher education program. To be eligible for admission consideration, applicants must meet specific academic and experience requirements depending on the age range and subject area you wish to teach.

  1. Graduate from a recognized degree program at an accredited university at which English is the primary language of instruction and in a country where English is the principal language.
  2. Achieve the competence standard indicated by one of the tests of English language proficiency: TOEFL or IELTS.

French Language (Applicants to the French specializations only)

In addition to the academic and admission requirements, all candidates wishing to teach in French and be admitted to the French specialization of the teacher education program at UBC must demonstrate proficiency in the language.

Experience Requirements

100 hours (minimum) of practical experience (volunteer or paid) working with groups of 10 or more age-appropriate students or youth is strongly preferred.

50 experience hours should be from a single, continuous experience.

To prepare for the teacher education program, we recommend that you acquire classroom experience in a Canadian setting to get a sense of what it will be like to teach in BC.
