Due to COVID-19, teacher candidates in the 2019/20 Bachelor of Education program have had to quickly adapt their teaching and learning styles through the use of online platforms. We are showcasing some of the wonderful examples of projects created by them as part of the community field experience.
Felicia Laron Secondary (Social Studies)
- What is the name of the community partner or group you are working with?
- School advisor at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School
- What is your project’s subject area(s)?
- Social Studies and IB
- Tell us about your project!
- My teacher website is a resource for social studies teachers at my practicum school and also those around the world. So far, I have lessons and activities for social studies 9 and 11, and I have also included lessons, activities, and notes for those taking IB geography 11 at the standard and higher level. I also made the website user-friendly for parents who would like to be updated on their child’s work in class. Parent’s may also print out lessons and activities if they would like to.
- Did you face any particular challenges in the planning, making or delivery of this project?
- Yes. Like any new piece of technology, I have faced the challenge of creating and formatting the website to my own liking, trying to make instructions visually appealing for viewers.
- How was the project received? Did anything surprise you about the outcome?
- My school advisor was very grateful for the website, and even though my practicum school decided to stick to one platform for teaching online (Microsoft Teams), I think that this website can be used in the future after we return to regular classes.
- Can you tell us about a highlight of creating this remote lesson plan?
- A highlight of creating remote lesson plans is that they are able to reach a wide variety of teachers and students, not just the ones at my practicum school. We are all struggling during this time and if this website can be of any help to those in other countries, then that would make me very happy.
- What media did you use to create your project?
- Weebly
