Due to COVID-19, teacher candidates in the 2019/20 Bachelor of Education program have had to quickly adapt their teaching and learning styles through the use of online platforms. We are showcasing some of the wonderful examples of projects created by them as part of the community field experience.

- What is the name of the community partner or group you are working with?
- Elementary students
- What is your project’s subject area(s)?
- French language learning, science/biology, outdoor/nature education
- Tell us about your project!
- I have created a YouTube channel based around bilingual (French and English) videos that encourage kids to try out experiments or activities that bring them outside to learn about nature, while also trying to accommodate a variety of situations and levels of accessibility.
The first video is based around creating a closed ecosystem in a jar and comes with English and French activity sheets. Future videos include a walk in the forest based around learning and identifying different things in both languages, balcony/planter gardening, and regrowing produce, as well as updates on previous videos!
- Did you face any particular challenges in the planning, making or delivery of this project?
- Video editing was the most significant challenge – it takes much longer than you would think and I am still working to improve my skills with each video!
- How was the project received? Did anything surprise you about the outcome?
- I’m still in the process of sharing it around, so I do not know how it will be received yet!
- Can you tell us about a highlight of creating this remote lesson plan?
- The highlight has been how filming and creating these videos has really gotten me to spend more time outside, just as I’m encouraging my viewers to do.
- What media did you use to create your project?
- Both my phone and laptop cameras, DaVinci Resolve, Microsoft Video Editor, and YouTube
- Where can we view your project?
