Opportunity for teacher candidates to take summer courses in French

Would you like to enhance your French language skills and learn about French as a second language pedagogy? If you are a French teacher candidate or are a TC with a background in French (minimum DELF B1 level of proficiency), you are eligible to take the following summer French courses offered by the Department of Language and Literacy Education (LLED).

LLED 421 Gramligne: Learning and Teaching Grammar in Text for the Second Language Classroom (3 credits)
July 4 to August 5, 2022 (Online, Asynchronous)

Develop your linguistic skills while learning a communicative approach to teaching grammar.

Note: Teacher candidates may take LLED 421 as a surplus course. Surplus course credits may be applied towards future professional development (e.g., a Diploma in Education, comprised of 30 credits at the 300-400 level in education specialization and which leads to a category upgrade).


LLED 423 Teaching French Adolescent Literature (3 credits)
July 4 to 22, 2022
This is an intensive online course. Synchronous sessions will take place Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Explore a variety of titles and genres in French that are sure to engage your students and enhance their language and intercultural skills. This course provides intermediate and secondary teachers with a solid understanding of teaching and learning a second language through literature, while introducing them to a wide range of activities to enhance students’ vocabulary, grammar, literary expressions, and fluency.

Note: Secondary teacher candidates may take this course as a summer free elective.
