New Appointment: Claire Rushton, Director, Teacher Education Office

Claire-Rushton-200x282The Teacher Education Office is pleased to announce that, after a posting and interviewing process involving representatives from all departments, Claire Rushton has been appointed as Director of the Teacher Education Office, effective September 1, 2016.

Claire Rushton brings more than 30 years experience as a school and district-based educator and administrator in the Vancouver School District and districts in Ontario and England. She was a seconded instructor in the BEd Program from 2012-2015 and, one year ago, successfully applied for and was appointed as a 12-month lecturer in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology and Special Education. Claire has coordinated the Social and Emotional Learning cohort for the past four years and, working with Dr. Shelley Hymel and Dr. Kim Schonert-Reichl, has built very strong relationships within the Surrey and Delta school districts. Claire’s extensive background as a principal in a number of busy schools, along with her experience teaching and coordinating within UBC’s Teacher Education Program, make her ideally suited to assume the duties of Director of the TEO.
