UBC teacher candidate Brandon Furtado raises thousands for charity

May 5, 2022

During his practicum at Holly Elementary in the Delta School District, 2021/22 UBC BEd teacher candidate Brandon Furtado raised over $5000 for Wigs for Kids BC. After letting his hair grow out during the COVID-19 pandemic, Brandon took a chance to create a fundraising opportunity full of laughs that involved the community.

“The school and community rallied behind his cause, easily passing the target. Furtado decided to take it further by agreeing to a mullet cut by teacher Juli Oldham. He then added a pie-in-the-face raffle for three lucky students. The end result was $5,125.05 raised.” (Delta Optimist)
