February is Black History Month, an opportunity for a focused, intentional and elevated reflection and recognition of Black history and achievement including the many historical and contemporary contributions of Black Canadians, Black British Columbians and Black students, faculty and staff at UBC. We also reflect on the issues and difficulties that were faced, and continue to be faced, by the Black community. Post-secondary institutions have a unique role in the ongoing process of creating meaningful change. Educating ourselves on our responsibilities and empowering our community to do the work together is important to building a just society.
