Recipient of the 2024 Murray Elliott Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teacher Education – Dr. Andrea Webb

The Teacher Education Office is pleased to announce Dr. Andrea Webb is the 2024 recipient of the Murray Elliott Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teacher Education in the Faculty of Education.

Dr. Webb was a classroom teacher and department head for a decade before returning to higher education as a teacher educator. She is passionate about teacher education and champions initiatives that provide teachers with the tools, resources, and autonomy to shape their teaching practices in ways that resonate with their unique strengths and contexts.

In addition to teaching in the Bachelor of Education program, Dr. Webb has worked with teacher candidates on the Community Field Experience, as they develop open access educational resources on teaching graphic narratives and genocide. Her scholarly interests include research projects related to Threshold Concepts, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), and Social Studies Teacher Education. Currently, Andrea is co-director of a multinational SSHRC-funded project, Survivor Centred Visual Narratives.

This award honours full-time and sessional faculty, staff and other persons associated with the Faculty of Education who have made an outstanding contribution to the Bachelor of Education program at UBC.

The recipient will receive a plaque along with a Pendleton blanket. In addition, the recipient’s name will be displayed in the Faculty alongside other recipients of the award.
