2020 Murray Elliott Award Recipient – John Yamamoto

The Teacher Education Office is pleased to announce John Yamamoto as the 2020 recipient of the Murray Elliott Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teacher Education in the Faculty of Education.

John Yamamoto has worked in the Teacher Education Office since 2000. He has worked primarily as the Program Coordinator for Secondary Practicum & Field Experience during his time in the TEO, while also taking on Co-Director responsibilities in 2015/16. Since March of 2020 John has been in the role of Director of the Teacher Education Office.

John graduated from the UBC Teacher Education Program in 1990, with his BEd (Secondary) in math and chemistry; he also received his MEd from UBC in 2013, in Educational Administration & Leadership. He worked as a secondary teacher in the Richmond, Trail and Burnaby school districts from 1990 through 2000, prior to coming to UBC.

This award honours full-time and sessional faculty, staff and other persons associated with the Faculty of Education who have made an outstanding contribution to the Teacher Education Program at UBC.

The recipient will receive a plaque along with a Pendleton blanket. In addition, the recipient’s name will be displayed in the Faculty alongside other recipients of the award.
