UBC Okanagan Teacher Education Program

Note: Pending final approval by the British Columbia Teachers’ Council (BCTC) in early February 2026, UBCO’s BEd program will transition from its current 16-month structure to an 11-month post-degree program.

UBC offers two distinct teacher education programs, one at the UBC Okanagan campus and one at the UBC Vancouver campus.

The Bachelor of Education (BEd) program on UBC’s Okanagan campus, located in Kelowna, BC, is an 11-month* post-degree program. This generalist program offers a variety of approaches to teaching and learning, with teacher candidates working alongside educators on campus and in real classroom settings. Throughout the program, candidates develop a reflective teaching stance that centers students, inclusive practice, and the quality of learning.

Students can choose either the Teaching Children (K–5+) or Teaching Adolescents (Grades 6–9+) pathway, with the option of French as the language of instruction for qualified applicants. The program includes two school-based practicum experiences along with coursework focused on classroom management, instructional design, assessment, literacy and numeracy, inclusive education, and the integration of technology to support diverse learner.

Students will graduate with a globally recognized UBC Bachelor of Education degree and recommendation for teacher certification by the Ministry of Education and Child Care (Teacher Regulation Branch).

Visit the Okanagan School of Education for program and admission information.
