Acts of Giving and Learning | September 20, 21, 27 & 28, 2022

The Teacher Education Office and NITEP invite teacher candidates to take part in a small act of giving in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. For the next two weeks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, TCs can drop by our table in the Scarfe foyer to make an “Every Child Matters” orange shirt button. Pre-made buttons will also be available for donation, if possible for you. (The act of making a button for others to keep is also seen as a way of giving.) Resources on the residential school system and reconciliation from the Legacy of Hope Foundation will be available to view as well.

Last year’s button drive raised $465, which was donated equally to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society and the Orange Shirt Society. Again, all proceeds raised this year will be donated to these organizations.

Tuesdays, September 20 & 27
Wednesdays, September 21 & 28
11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. | Scarfe foyer

EDUCATION LIBRARY BOOK DISPLAY:
Drop by the Education Library’s display of curriculum materials about Truth and Reconciliation in Canada — on now until September 30. The display includes picture books, novels and graphic novels that address the history of residential schools in Canada, as well as teacher resources to support Truth and Reconciliation in K-12 schools. The Education Library has a number of materials available year round to support teaching and learning about Residential School History and Truth and Reconciliation, many of which can be found on their booklists.
