Due to COVID-19, teacher candidates in the 2019/20 Bachelor of Education program have had to quickly adapt their teaching and learning styles through the use of online platforms. We are showcasing some of the wonderful examples of projects created by them as part of the community field experience.

- What is the name of the community partner or group you are working with?
- This CFE project was made to be used by educators throughout BC, especially in the intermediate grades.
- What is your project’s subject area(s)?
- My project covers both literacy and numeracy subject areas.
- Tell us about your project!
- This project is a YouTube channel with the purpose that educators can bring the videos into their classroom, send it home for students missing work, or for online learning purposed. The content will cover a variety of topics including, math and language arts. All material is created in connection with the BC Curriculum, Content and Core Competancies. The majority of materials are from grades 4-5 in the BC Curriculum, but can be applied to students needing more support or more of a challenge. The videos are meant to create engagement in the materials and can be incorported into class inquiry projects!
- Did you face any particular challenges in the planning, making or delivery of this project?
- I don’t think I faced too many challenges other than learning how to use an entirely new platform. One thing I really noticed is I needed to be careful and clear with communication since students couldn’t ask questions in person. With this in mind, I tried to provide thurough explanation of each topic.
- How was the project received? Did anything surprise you about the outcome?
- I was surprised by how positively this project with recieved by both parents and students from my practicum classroom. They seemed to have fun with it while being able to learn and engage with the materials. My faculty advisor was also quite impressed with the outcome of the project.
- Can you tell us about a highlight of creating this remote lesson plan?
- This project was just quite fun to create! I really enjoyed that it allowed me to express my two passions, creativity and education! I hope to be able to continue this YouTube channel in the future and to continue making videos.
- What media did you use to create your project?
- I used a few different programs for my final project. I filmed the videos using my iPhone 8 and a selfie stick. I then created and edited the videos on iMovie. I created the title screen using the app Keynote most often, but I also used the app Clips once. Once the video was put together I used both Google Drive and finally YouTube to upload it. I created my channel art using the website Canvas.com. This is a great site that can be used to create a lot of materials for social media, but you can also use it to create infographics, posters, and worksheets!
- Where can we view your project?
- My YouTube Channel name is Inspire Inquire.
