Due to COVID-19, teacher candidates in the 2019/20 Bachelor of Education program have had to quickly adapt their teaching and learning styles through the use of online platforms. We are showcasing some of the wonderful examples of projects created by them as part of the community field experience.
Camille Cruz BEd Secondary (Physical Education)
- What is the name of the community partner or group you are working with?
- Byrne Creek Community School PHE Department and Students
- What is your project’s subject area(s)?
- Physical and Health Education (PHE)
- Tell us about your project!
- I created this website for my school advisor (SA) and the Byrne Creek Physical and Health Education department to use as a resource for online learning. There are two main sections: Physical and Health Education and from there are various activities and workout videos to choose from. As my SA took more of a lead role during practicum, I started to put this website together to help the department and to keep resources in one place.
- Did you face any particular challenges in the planning, making or delivery of this project?
- A challenge in particular was finding content that was relevant to the students of BCCS whether it is a yoga video, workout app, nutrition video or a guided meditation clip. I wanted to make sure that both physical and health were covered in the midst of all the online learning and activity logs.
Another challenge was figuring out how to make the website easy to use without being overwhelming to look at.
- Can you tell us about a highlight of creating this remote lesson plan?
- The PHE department loved it and one of the PHE teachers made a worksheet designed to use and explore the website – hoping to connect with this teacher and hear some more student feedback!
- What media did you use to create your project?
