BEd teacher candidates are eligible for a number of scholarships and awards, most of which are based upon recommendations submitted for meeting outstanding program or practicum success criteria by instructors and practicum faculty advisors.
A small number of admission awards are based upon GPA only. For the 12-month options, awards decisions are made at the conclusion of the program. For the 2-year elementary option, scholarships are awarded at the end of Year 1, and prizes are awarded at the end of Year 2. The faculty also recognizes outstanding work in the extended teaching practicum. Teacher candidates do not apply directly for awards.
CREATE is a Faculty-wide initiative established by Dr. Rita Irwin, Associate Dean of Teacher Education programs, to inspire innovations in teacher education at UBC.
It also involves a series of seminars where faculty members contribute topics for consideration to add to this examination.
