UBC-Okanagan (UBC-O) Bachelor of Education Program

UBC offers two distinct teacher education programs, one at
UBC-Okanagan (UBC-O) and one at the UBC Vancouver campus.

Visit UBC Okanagan for specific
admission requirements.

Both programs result in eligibility for teacher certification in British Columbia.

However, they are different in program design and admissions criteria, and therefore, have separate advising.

UBC-O offers the Elementary Teacher Education Program (ETEP) and the Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP). Both options include an extended practicum in a local school.

UBC-O Elementary Teacher Education Program (ETEP)

ETEP is a two-year program for individuals who have completed an initial degree that includes required courses. This option has an annual intake in September.

Completion of ETEP results in a BEd degree and a recommendation for teacher certification in BC.

UBCO also offers a five-year BEd degree program for individuals who choose that option as the starting point for their teacher education studies.

Teacher candidates in the ETEP program may be able to undertake independent research in a Guided Reflective Inquiry Project (GRIP).

UBC-O Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP)

STEP is a 12-month program for individuals who have already completed a 4-year degree that includes study in approved subject areas. This option has an annual intake in July.
