French Language Options

Since French is one of Canada’s official languages, French language teachers are always in demand in our schools. The BEd Secondary and Elementary 12-month options are available for French Language teaching opportunities:

Secondary 12-Month Options:

Secondary French Specialists may choose to teach French in secondary schools in the following ways: French Immersion, Core French, and Francophone Schools.

When enrolled in the French Specialist program, most of the classes are taught in French; as well, practica occur in French Immersion or in regular schools offering Core French, or in Francophone schools. Learning content in French allows teacher candidates to continue to develop their French skills during the year. Teacher candidates may combine French with another teaching subject concentration (e.g. Spanish or Biology, etc).

Requirements for Core French:
Teaching French Language courses to Grades 8-12
Requirements for French Immersion: French Language & Literature Courses
(Grades 8-12)
